Hello there, you wonderful subreddit. I am looking in to purchasing a new computer, and I can get myself an iMac 27' for a pretty decent price.
I really love my macbook, and for me a mac is better at everything I do (please don't make this into a mac vs pc thread), except for one thing: FL Studio. I'm thinking of getting ableton, but apart from it being really ugly next to FL Studio, I just don't think it seems as good as FL. So, my question is, how well does FL Studio perform in parallels?
I know that boot camp is an option but I think that feels retarded, why buy a mac I have to restart computer all time. Watch out for spelling errors and such, I'm on my phone. Why buy a mac I have to restart computer all time. Care to explain, i really dont understand what you mean? You buy a MAC because your other computer restarts all the time?
I have no idea about parralel/dualbooting/hackingtosh/bootcamp. But one thing i can tell you is: Its not what you use, its how you use it. Nowadays, all DAW are at the same level, no one is really better or weaker than the other, each has is own strengths and weakness, it only depends on how you plan to use it, what you plan to do with it, and your willingness to learn a new program. Since FL studio is not made for MAC, of course you add an extra step in the processing by having to dual boot or wtv you are going to do to run a windows based program. If you want my advice, get a PC, or get a mac-based DAW (ableton/logic).
You will have less problem than if you try to combine the two! No he means that if he runs bootcamp he will have to restart it every time he wants to change from regular use to FL studio since a restart is required to boot into Windows. I use bootcamp on my macbook to run FL and I do agree that sometimes I do find myself lazy to switch over to Windows to use FL and hence I spend less time producing. To the OP however, I would not recommend FL and parallels.
If youre gonna do it, do it right and use bootcamp. FL studio had a beta test in winter of 2011 for a mac version of FL (or at least it used a wrapper). But I heard there were some issues and no release date is out yet AFAIK (or any statement that there will ever be a release date).
